Commonly asked questions

We knew you’d have questions, so we asked the experts for you:

What is Procera®?

Procera® is an individualized state-of-the art CAD/CAM treatment concept, developed to optimize the esthetic result. Veneers, crowns and bridges from Procera® are of all-ceramic metal-free materials. The first patient was treated with Procera® in 1983 and since then, millions of patients have been treated worldwide.

What is the difference between a Nobel Biocare all-ceramic crown and a porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown?

A Nobel Biocare all-ceramic crown is beautifully translucent, like natural teeth. The all-ceramic material leaves no unnatural grey line near the gums, because it is metal-free and biocompatible. A porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown has a core of cast metal alloy covered with porcelain. If your gum receded, a gray line will become visible.

Does it hurt to get a dental veneer or dental crown?

You shouldn’t experience any significant discomfort during either process. During tooth re-shaping, your dentist might give you local anesthesia.

How long should the dental veneer or dental crown last?

Our studies have shown that with proper dental care, your new all-ceramic dental crown or dental veneer should last a number of years. All-ceramic dental crowns are backed by several years of clinical studies that prove they are exceptionally strong.

I have metal allergies, should I be cautious about getting a new dental crown?

Nobel Biocare all-ceramic dental veneers and dental crowns by Procera® are completely metal-free. Instead, they are made of body-friendly (biocompatible), non-allergenic materials that are better both for you and the environment.
